What does your screen time really add up to?

Check Settings → Screen Time for your daily average, then move the sliders. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

68

days a year

10.4

years by age 80

28%

of your waking day

Assumes 16 waking hours a day and the same habit until 80. It counts all phone time — some of it is time well spent. Bricked is for the rest.

That time, measured differently

  • 63 full 8-hour workdays a year
  • 235 novels a year, at about 7 hours each
  • 205 nights of 8-hour sleep a year

Illustrations only — the point is the size of it, not the exact swap.

What’s normal?

UK adults spend about 4 h 30 min online every day, and 18–24-year-olds closer to 6 h 20 min (Ofcom, 2025). In the US, 53% of adults say they spend too much time on their smartphone, and 41% say it hurts their sleep (Pew Research Center, 2026).

Not all of that is wasted — messages, maps and work count too. The hours worth looking at are the ones you’d never choose on purpose: the 1 a.m. feed, the “quick check” that ran for an hour. For a deeper read, see what 3 to 12 hours a day really means.

Cut the part you didn’t choose

Research on self-set limits finds they genuinely reduce use, and cutting just an hour a day was linked to better wellbeing that lasted months (Allcott et al., 2022; Brailovskaia et al., 2022). The catch is making the limit hold at the moment you want to break it — that’s what Bricked is built for.

Questions

How is this calculated?

Hours per day × 365 gives hours per year; divided by 24 that is full days per year. The lifetime figure assumes the same daily habit from your age until 80. “Share of your waking day” assumes 16 waking hours. It is arithmetic, not a prediction.

What is the average screen time for adults?

UK adults spend about 4 h 30 min online per day, and 18–24-year-olds about 6 h 20 min (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025). In the US, 53% of adults say they spend too much time on their smartphone (Pew Research Center, 2026).

Where do I find my real screen time on iPhone?

On iOS 27, open Settings → Screen Time and look at Daily Average. On iOS 26 and earlier, open Settings → Screen Time → See All App & Website Activity and tap Week for the daily average. Use that number in the calculator.

Is all screen time bad?

No. Maps, messages with people you love, work and learning all count as screen time. The calculator shows the total; the useful question is how much of it you would choose again. That is the part an app limit is for.
